Philip's memory

Created by Alison 4 years ago

The year is 1974, I'm a typical 6-year-old lad. Shaun Brownsey & I decided it would be fun to see if we could make a trap to catch one of Mr Bridewell's chickens! After a few hours of experimenting with different ideas we came up with the perfect trap. A box balanced on a stick with a piece of string attached. We used a worm as bait to tempt the chicken into our lair. It worked! But unfortunately for the chicken (and later for me) our antics didn't stop there... the chicken ended up with a fresh coat of paint the same colour as my parents' living room!

The next thing I remembered was Mum grabbing me by the scruff of the neck and giving me the biggest smacked backside I'd ever had! With a quivering lip & a wobbly chin I said my farewell to Shaun before skulking into the house. She taught me right from wrong and since that day I've never liked peach paint, but always loved Mum.
